Car Paint Stripping & Rust Removal
Jul 04, 2023
When discussing stripping vintage cars, we usually think of sandblasting, soda blasting or dry ice cleaning. The disadvantage of sandblasting is that the whole environment has to be shielded. In addition to this, there is a large amount of waste that needs to be chemically treated, as it is full of paint particles. A third big problem with blasting is the fact that no distinction is made between the paint and the substrate. Aiming at one spot for too long can lead to localised thinning of the metal.

Laser cleaning works in a different way. The car is illuminated by a laser gun and the laser beam will remove any form of paint and/or rust without damaging the metal. This is because the metal is ablated at a higher temperature than paint, rust and other contamination. A difference is created between the body of the car and what may be on it, even to the molecular level. An important result of this is that any rust spots and rust holes are removed very selectively. The laser beam has no effect on the bare metal and we can easily shine a little more time on the risk area without any danger: all the rust disappears, but the healthy metal remains. That's how you achieve results that can never be achieved by other methods. The paintwork will never be so perfect afterwards!
Cleaning with laser cleaning not only remove rust but also dirt, grease residues, grease marks and other deposits. Layers up to 1 or 2 mm thick can be easily removed. As far as the underlying surface is concerned, metal sheets will not be a problem, but we are also able to remove dirt from glass, wood, aluminium and other materials that can withstand temperatures of at least 100°C. After all, the underlying surface does not heat up as a direct result of the laser beam, but the underlying material still heats up slightly as the paint layer above it does warm up.
In terms of price, laser cleaning is not comparable to other methods. We are a factory and not only can we assemble the machine, we also have a professional R&D team to provide a solution just for you, or you can send us a sample to test the results for free. People often think that laser cleaning is much more expensive than other methods. However, this is not true, as laser cleaning is much faster, which means that the prices are ultimately comparable. And the results will be much better too.
